Day 13: Mon 17 Nov 25 - Devgad to Malvan

Mon 17 Nov 25 - Devgad to Malvan

Distance: 56.3km | Ride Time: 3h 10m | Overnight: Malvan (Saagar Sangam)

I drank 3 litres of water and a 750ml bottle of beer from 5:00pm yesterday, and still had signs of dehydration this morning. I decided to ride, and gauge how I felt along the way with the option of getting in the support van if i didn't feel right.  We got away at 08:00am, and I actually felt better as I rode further, so I used it as a bit of a recovery day, just cruising along at the back. The ride was quite scenic in places, mostly beautiful shady rolling coastal roads and some open inland rural roads. There were some shortish sharp climbs today, but nothing too demanding - just what I (and a few others) hoped for.

The 20 km mark was our first stop, and another omelette bau was had for our 2nd breakfast. The next 20km saw the temperature climb and I was glad the last 16 km was over a gentle rolling road, mostly through shaded narrow lanes and villages. It was surprisingly tidy and we even saw a small rubbish truck with a couple of workers cleaning up litter.

We arrived at the hotel/resort (Saagar Sangam) at 1:00pm, and was thankful to finish riding early today, leaving time for a shower and a short rest before a late lunch at 2:30pm. The rest of the afternoon was nice and relaxing, with a couple of short walks to the beach, before a beer with the group followed by dinner. So far this trip i have eaten mainly vegetarian, the safest option, but tonight I threw caution to the wind and ate seafood - Prawns, Mackeral and Kingfish. The Kingfish was the star, and while it all tasted fresh, standby for tomorow's blog to find out if i regret not sticking with vegetarian. One more day of riding - albeit 85km with some inevitable lumpy bits, before we have a rest day.

2 minutes ride from the hotel for tea and Poha as the hotel doesn't have a restaurant onsite. This was a very popular place, even for school kids who were on their way to school next door
