Tue 18 Nov 25 - Malvan to Arambol
Distance: 72 | Ride Time: 4h 12m | Overnight: Arambol (Seaside Stay)
The day started a little fresh with a brisk wind as we rode away at 8:00am reaching a very dry and hot 33 Deg with no breeze from midday through to when we arrived Arambol. It was a fairly uninteresting ride with lots of the same thing - hills, and more hills, an occasional river crossing and some small villages, then some more hills. The route was mainly inland but obviously not too far away from the coast as there were plenty of ladies selling fish along the roadside in the villages. With the temperature climbing and all the hills in our way, we had a few extra stops to rehydrate on our way to Arambol, where we arrived shortly after 2:00pm. After settling into our rooms, we gathered for a light lunch - chicken or vegetable biryani which was very nice.
Arambol is a traditional fishing village located about 25km north Panaji, the capital city of Goa where we will ride to on Thurday - our last day of cycling this trip. Tomorrow is a rest day, so time to explore Arambol, or just rest. Aramabol has a reputation as being a bit of a hippy town and a hub for studying yoga, meditation and alternative therapies. Riding into town we certainly noticed a few westerners wandering around, unlike any other town or village we''ve been through on this trip, where we have not seen one other westerner.
At 5:00pm, most of the group wandered down to Arambol Beach (along with thousands of others) to watch the sunset and for a game of beach cricket, followed by a beer (or several for some others). On the way back to the hotel, we stopped for dinner and had another lovely tasty meal (Indian of course). It was a very enjoyable afternoon / evening.
